Role: Network Backbone Engineer
Location: Fully Remote (West Coast Hours)
Duration: 18-Months
Pay Rate: $80 to $90
Overview: The Client is seeking an experienced Network Backbone Engineer to design, build, and operate a global backbone and hybrid multi-cloud network for a large-scale financial technology organization. This team manages one of the largest hybrid cloud infrastructures in the world, delivering network services to customers across 200+ countries. You will own network delivery for infrastructure growth initiatives, partner onboarding, and next-generation cloud interconnect projects — working with cutting-edge IP/MPLS and multi-cloud technologies in a truly global environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement backbone network architecture for on-prem and public cloud environments
- Build and manage hybrid connectivity between on-prem infrastructure and AWS, GCP, and Azure
- Operate and optimize a global IP/MPLS backbone including traffic engineering and capacity planning
- Interface with carriers and circuit providers for peering, circuit delivery, and troubleshooting
- Drive extranet/partner onboarding from network definition through delivery
- Produce and maintain MOPs, SOPs, and network engineering best practices and documentation
- Support critical outage resolution and provide technical expertise to global teams
Required Skills & Experience:
- 8+ years of experience managing large-scale global networks
- Hands-on experience configuring and managing Juniper MX and QFX platforms (this is the primary technical bar — candidates without direct Juniper experience will not be considered)
- Deep working knowledge of BGP, MPLS/RSVP-TE, OSPF/IS-IS, and TCP/IP (L2/L3)
- Experience with BGP traffic engineering and public peering with ISPs and CDNs
- Experience interfacing with carriers for peering, circuit delivery, and migration
- Hands-on experience with hybrid cloud connectivity — AWS Direct Connect/Transit Gateway, GCP Interconnect, Azure ExpressRoute
- Experience with on-prem to public cloud dedicated and hosted interconnects
- Hands-on experience with Cisco and/or Arista routing and switching
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in financial services or fintech network environments
- Juniper JNCIP or JNCIS certification
- Experience with network design, operations, and troubleshooting methodologies at global scale
