Role: Staff Software Engineer
Location: Brooklyn, NY or San Mateo, CA (1 day onsite per week)
Duration: FTE
Pay Rate: $200,000 to $220,000
Overview: We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to provide senior technical leadership across full-stack application development and platform initiatives. This is a hands-on role focused on designing, building, and scaling reliable, high-performance applications and services. The ideal candidate has strong expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, MongoDB, NoSQL, Rust, and GCP, along with the ability to influence architecture and engineering decisions across teams.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of scalable full-stack applications and backend services.
- Drive architectural decisions across application, API, and platform layers.
- Develop production applications and services using JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js.
- Design and optimize data solutions using MongoDB and NoSQL databases.
- Contribute to application and backend development using Rust.
- Build and support cloud-native solutions on GCP, including BigQuery.
- Improve system performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
- Partner with Product, Design, Infrastructure, and Engineering teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Provide technical mentorship and influence engineering standards across teams.
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, troubleshooting, and production issue resolution.
Required Skills:
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Experience working at Staff Engineer or equivalent senior technical scope.
- Strong hands-on experience with JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Strong full-stack application development experience.
- Strong experience with Node.js.
- Production experience with MongoDB and NoSQL databases.
- Experience with GCP and cloud-based application development.
- Experience with BigQuery.
- Strong software architecture and distributed systems experience.
- Experience developing scalable APIs and production services.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.
- Experience with Rust.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with React or Vue.js.
- Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure.
- Experience with event-driven or distributed architectures.
- Experience scaling SaaS or high-availability applications.
- Experience with DevOps, SRE, observability, and production reliability practices.
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across teams.
