Role: Mainframe Developer – QA Testing
Location: Oakland, CA (Hybrid 2 days onsite)
Duration: 6+ months
Pay Rate: $50 to $60
Overview: We are looking for a highly specialized Automation Test Engineer with strong expertise in mainframe testing and UFT automation. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with government clients, a deep understanding of CI/CD pipelines, and proficiency in tools like Azure DevOps. This role requires hands-on experience with testing legacy systems, modern .NET/Angular-based applications, and working across globally distributed teams.
Mainframe, batch job testing, JCL processing, and documentation, along with experience in Jira/ADO and excellent attention to detail – MUST.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts using Micro Focus UFT, OpenText, and Postman
- Execute mainframe testing, including validation of COBOL-based, CICS, and batch job applications
- Collaborate with development teams across the U.S., the Netherlands, and the Philippines
- Participate in test planning, execution, and reporting aligned with Agile practices
- Document test plans, test cases, and detailed defect logs
- Work closely with DevOps to integrate testing into the CI/CD process using Azure DevOps
- Report progress through JIRA, ensuring traceability of requirements and defects
- Attend regular meetings and be available onsite at least one day per week (Wednesdays)
Required Skills:
- 8+ years of experience in test automation
- Strong hands-on experience with UFT (Micro Focus)
- Mainframe testing experience (COBOL, CICS, Batch Jobs)
- Experience testing .NET and Java-based applications
- Experience with Postman, OpenText
- Working knowledge of CI/CD processes, especially Azure DevOps
- Experience working with government or public sector clients
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong documentation and reporting experience using Excel and JIRA
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in migrating applications from Blazor to Angular
- Background in large-scale tax or financial systems testing
- Comfortable working in globally distributed teams across time zones
