Role: Senior Mainframe Server Administrator
Location: San Jose, CA (Remote)
Contract Term: 12 months – Part-time (20 hours/week)

Objective: Seeking a highly experienced Senior Mainframe Server Administrator to serve as the principal architect and expert technical resource for IBM and third-party software systems. The role involves software evaluation, design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting within a z/OS 2.4 and JES2 environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and support VTAM & TCPIP subsystems.
  • Install, configure, and maintain IBM and third-party software using SMP/E.
  • Ensure system backup, recovery, and disaster recovery (DR) processes.
  • Monitor software performance, security, and resource utilization.
  • Provide technical leadership, training, and mentoring.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software issues with vendors and developers.
  • Develop and update technical documentation.
  • Provide 24/7/365 on-call support.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 20+ years in mainframe software management (VTAM & TCPIP).
  • Expertise in IBM SMP/E, IEBCOPY, RACF, JCL, TSO, ISPF, SDSF.
  • Strong knowledge of OSA Adapters, IP Routing, VIPA, FTPS, SFTP, AT/TLS, TN3270, Enterprise Extender.
  • Experience in Assembler, REXX, CLIST scripting, and z/OS UNIX.
  • Solid understanding of DB2, CICS, JES2, and DR best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with DB2, DR, DASD/VTS mirroring, and contract execution.
  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours as needed.
